Scary to think about the world my children will grow up in. While pregnant with my first child, there were a rash of children's deaths. Two of the included, the woman who drowned her two boys and claimed they'd been kidnapped, another mother who claimed her daughter went missing only to later find the body - her boyfriend had taken the little girl by the feet and slammed her head into a wall because she wouldn't quit crying and I believe he just wanted to have s-x w/ the mother. Will it end before Christ returns? Quite possibly not. I know the '50's, the decade in which I grew up, had its own set of social ills, but with the racial unrest and rightful demand for justice in the '60's came heavy-duty drugs, "free love," living for the moment and screwing whoever didn't like it. We've been on a long, steep razor blade ever since, and we're headed straight for the big vat of iodine. God help us all. It is both striking and profound. I agree with everything you wrote and think about it almost constantly. I've decided I am in mourning and grief-stricken. Some part of me cannot believe it is all happening, so quickly, in one or two short generations. It seems quite biblical to me, though, and in some small way it shores up my Faith. And I cling to my family more than ever. Thanks for writing such a touching piece.
