Wow Bob, you've hit the ground running this year. Such good information here. One of my most intractible sins is that, though I repent of my many shortcomings daily, weekly as a part of my journey with Christ, often I don't forgive myself even though God does. Holding my own self hostage and hijacking God's forgiveness and sactification process then is what I most need to repent of.

Thank you for your writings here. To me they are coherent and encouraging in my journey.

God bless you and your family in 2008.

I grew up in a tradition that made liberal use of words like "backsliding" and its variants. Oddly, a part of the doctrine was that, through "entire sanctification," the very core of sin would be removed, so that we could no longer sin. (So whence cometh backsliding??) You have no idea how many times I asked for that work of God's grace. Finally, in my mid-20's, I concluded that the stated theology offered a misinterpretation of God's Word; that, either God played games with sincere seekers, or there was no "sinless perfection," as claimed.

You have described the life of the Christian as I know it. Having spent the last few years learning about the grace I so seldom saw and heard taught or preached, I hold fast to "There is now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus." I also know that God is busy transforming me, and that He will be kept busy at the task for as long as He gives me breath.

The good news for me is that I am not the same person I was five years ago, and I was not then the same person that I had been five years earlier. By the way, that's also good news for the husband who shares my life!

And yet...old things, instead of having wholly passed away, do rear their ugly heads, now and then. No condemnation. No. Condemnation. Only a God full of grace could have inspired those words.

And I await your next post in the series!

transformed by the RENEWING of your mind ...

ongoing process ... that's what we don't like ... the fact that once we're renewed ... we still must be renewed again ... as we go deeper and deeper ..and learn more ... we are responsible for yet, another level of need for renewing of our mind ...

a continuing to press for the mark of his High calling ...

and the devil so likes to tell us that when we fall short, we've failed ... isntead of that we're on the journey ...and still pressing forward ...

we are so often blinded by his darkness when God's glorious light is right in front of us, all we have to do is look up ...and continue to press forward ... in HIS grace ... His Love .. HIS mercy ... and HIS strength ...
